César signed for Real Madrid in the summer of 2000 from Valladolid after impressing for several seasons as one of the best goalkeepers in the Primera División. In his first year with our team, he lifted the league title, but his most memorable moment would come in the following season.
He started in goal in nine Champions League matches in the 2001/02 season, including all the knockout stages and the final against Bayer Leverkusen. Midway through the second half of that historic match he was forced off injured, but his contribution was crucial in securing the club’s ninth European Cup.
He played in goal for Real Madrid until 2005, making 59 appearances and winning seven trophies. In addition to his time at our club, César is one of the most illustrious players in the Primera División with more than 400 appearances for Valladolid, Real Madrid, Zaragoza, Valencia and Villarreal. He was also an international with Spain.
