After nine months and six trips to the Bernabéu, the Real Madrid UK Supporters Club Fan Club was founded in May 2004. Little by little, people from all over the United Kingdom wanted to become members: Japanese, French, Italians, Cypriots, Africans, Indians, etc. A total of 300 members. That's what you call the globalisation of football; the whole world has the chance to watch Raúl, Beckham, Cannavaro, Roberto Carlos and company play, and also be an active part of a Club that is as international as its players.
The UK Supporters Club organises many events. “We put on social events, and we have an Under-13 Club, a daily newspaper containing Real Madrid news, and a travel club,” commented its President, Ángel José Calvo. They get together every weekend to watch the team play. “There were 200 of us at the Sports Café in London when Real Madrid played Barcelona. The match was broadcast by Sky TV,” added Calvo.
The group tries to follow Real Madrid wherever they travel to. “I made it to the Champions League final in Paris. We go support them whenever they are in England, especially when playing at Old Trafford, Ellan Road, or Hampden Park.” Madridista Londoners never rest. In fact, they send a small group to each Real Madrid match in representation of the fan club.
