Our team took a point in their final Champions League clash with Twente, with Däbritz finding the net.
Real Madrid drew with Twente in their sixth and final clash in the opening phase of the Women’s Champions League. The hosts went ahead at the start of the second period, but Däbritz made it 1-1 in the final moments of the game. The result means Pau Quesada's team will have to come through a playoff to book a place in the competition's quarter-finals. Having finished seventh in the table, they will be a seeded team and are set to face either Paris FC or Wolfsburg. The draw that decides our opposition will be held at midday this Thursday in Nyon. The first leg is scheduled for 11 or 12 February and the return comes on 18 or 19.
Madrid looked to dominate the game early on, and with 4 minutes on the clock they enjoyed the first opportunity to take the lead, but Däbritz's goal was ruled out for offside in the buildup. The hosts responded with a fierce Proost drive that crashed off the top of the bar. The madridistas continued to push, but they lacked a clinical edge in front of goal. Feller had the best chance so far with 35 minutes gone, when she got her shot off well, only to see it kept out by the goalkeeper. Prior to half-time, Linda C. tried her luck with an effort from the edge of the box but Lemey was on hand once again to gather.
The goals finally come
Despite the madridista superiority, Twente went ahead soon into the second half through Ravensbergen. Weir could have levelled on 53’ but her sweetly struck free-kick was repelled by the goalkeeper again. Twente were keen to find another goal, and Misa had to be alert just after the hour-mark, her diving stop keeping out Roord's free-kick. Our team refused to give up in their search for a goal, and they finally got their reward in the closing minutes. Däbritz fired off a left-footed drive from inside the area which left Lemey with no chance to make it 1-1.
