Fee-scoring Real Madrid thump Roma in the Women's Champions League

An emphatic start for Real Madrid in the Women's Champions League. Pau Quesada's side cruised to victory over Roma on matchday one of the competition. The Alfredo Di Stéfano stadium was witness to a thrilling match in which Redondo (6' and 42') and Weir (23' and 59') scored two goals each, with Lakrar (53') and Eva Navarro (73') completing the rout against the Italian side. Linda Caicedo also stood out, contributing two assists to the cause.
Madrid came out all guns blazing and took just six minutes to take the lead. Lakrar rose highest to meet a corner. Baldi pushed the ball away, but Redondo was waiting to pounce on the rebound and this time, the keeper was powerless to prevent the goal. Madrid continued to lay siege to the opposition's goal after the restart. After several warnings, Lakrar took advantage of a rebound in the box to extend the lead (53'). Shortly afterwards, Weir scored her second goal of the night to make it 5-2 after a fine move by Linda Caicedo (59'). The Colombian was involved again, this time setting up Eva Navarro to complete Madrid's rout in the 73rd minute.
