Madrid reach Spanish Super Cup final

Real Madrid beat Atlético and will play the final of the Spanish Super Cup on Saturday in Castellón (7 pm CET). The Whites took a three-goal lead in the first half that ended up being decisive despite Luany's goal in the second half. Athenea (5’), Weir (15’) and Linda Caicedo (20’) were on target, while Misa played her 200th game as a Madridista. The opponents in the final will be the winners of Wednesday's semi-final between Barcelona and Athletic Club.

Madrid came out all guns blazing, applying pressure which was instrumental in taking the lead after just five minutes. Athenea stole a ball on the edge of the area, drove into the box and fired in a cross-shot to make it 1-0. Ten minutes later came the second. Weir took advantage of a defensive mix-up in the visitors' defence to fire past Gallardo.

Linda Caicedo adds the third
The Madridistas were not satisfied and before the 20th minute they were 3-0 up. Linda Caicedo broke away from her own half to get down in front of the goal and hit a long-range shot that bounced in front of the keeper before finding the back of the net. Atlético had chances to close the gap, but were unable to convert them and the game went to the break with a big lead for the Madridistas.

Chances for both in the second half
After the restart, Misa kept the visitors from making it 3-1 with a double save, first from Boe Risa's shot and then from Amaiur's close-range effort. Shortly after, Linda could have scored the fourth with a close-range shot that crashed against the post. In the 73rd minute, Luany managed to pull one back for Atlético. Shei and Linda had chances before the end, but the scoreboard did not move again and Madrid will look to win the Super Cup this Saturday.
