Draw in the derby

Real Madrid and Atlético drew 1-1 in the derby played at the Alfredo Di Stéfano stadium in the sixth round of matches. Toril's side, still unbeaten in the league so far, were the better side and dominated the majority of the game. A superb goal from Weir after seven minutes, following link-up play with Linda C. and Bruun, gave them the lead. They had several chances to extend the lead but a very dubious penalty awarded against them in the closing stages saw Atletico equalise.

Madrid got off to a strong start. With seven minutes on the clock, Linda C broke down the left flank, cut into the box and played Weir in. The Scotswoman linked up with Brunn inside the box before Brunn back-heeled the ball back to her and left her alone in front of goal. With a well-struck shot, she made it 1-0. The madridistas stepped up from that point on and began to attack Gallardo's goal with regularity. Linda C. was a constant threat to the opposition defence and came close to a second with two shots from the edge of the area that the red and white keeper kept out in the 30th and 45th minutes. The Madrid defence hardly gave Atlético any chances in the first half.

The dominance of the home side grew after the break. Linda C. continued with her display of tricks and dribbles. One of them ended in a shot that grazed the post in the 52nd minute. Olga had the chance to increase the lead three minutes later with a shot across goal into the top corner that was deflected wide by Gallardo. Having to find an equaliser, Atletico pushed forward. Fiamma's introduction gave them more of a cutting edge, but Madrid were solid at the back with Misa excelling in one of the visitors' few chances. Toril brought on Alba Redondo and Athenea for Bruun and Feller.

Key moment
In the 77th minute, the referee awarded a very dubious penalty to Atlético after Gaby García was brought down in an action with Teresa inside the box. Boa Risa converted it to make it 1-1 and the game was completely open. Both coaches made changes but there was no movement on the scoreboard despite Madrid's attempts, and chances for Alba Redondo and Linda C., to win the game.
