Real Madrid start the year with derby win

Real Madrid kicked off 2025 in style. The Whites beat Atlético in the Madrid derby at the Centro Deportivo Alcalá de Henares thanks to an outstanding performance by Linda Caicedo. The Colombian put the Madridistas ahead on the stroke of half-time and after the break, her pull-back forced Gaby's own goal. The home side reduced the deficit to 1-2, but Alberto Toril's charges held on for their first win of the year, their 10th in the Liga F.
The game was evenly poised from the kick-off. Atletico were the first to threaten with a long-range shot from Otermin, which swerved onto the crossbar (16'). Shortly afterwards, the Whites responded with a shot from the edge of the area by Weir, which was saved by Lola. After that, neither team managed to create chances until just before half-time. In the 44th minute, Madrid broke the deadlock with a goal from Linda C. The Colombian received a pass from Weir, dribbled to the edge of the box and unleashed a right-footed strike past Lola and into the net.

Linda C. was again in the thick of the action after the interval as she helped her side to a 2-0 lead. The Madridista got away from her marker near the byline with a lovely turn and crossed into the box for Gaby to turn the ball into her own goal as she tried to clear (53'). In the following attack, Toril's side had the chance to increase their lead, but Weir’s shot from Bruun’s pass was narrowly off target.

The hosts got a foothold in the clash when they pulled a goal back in the 65th minute (1-2). Lloris produced a fierce long-range drive which, after hitting the crossbar, rebounded off Misa and into the Madridista goal. In the 83rd minute, M. Mendez thought she had increased the Whites' lead again, but her goal was disallowed for a foul on the goalkeeper by Athenea. The scoreline remained unchanged as Real Madrid emerged victorious from the second Madrid derby of the campaign.
