A Weir strike, another from Athenea and the German’s brace sealed a convincing win for Madrid, who played with 10 from the 33rd minute after Shei was sent off.
Real Madrid picked up their second Liga F win with a resounding defeat of Deportivo de La Coruña at the Alfredo Di Stéfano. Our team set themselves up well with two goals in the opening 10 minutes, from Weir and Däbritz. They then had to overcome Shei’s expulsion before the break, and went on to underline their dominance in the second half as the German completed her double and Athenea rounded off the result in stoppage time. The win sees Madrid complete a perfect week, following their qualification for the Women’s Champions League on Thursday.
The Di Stéfano paid tribute to the European U19 champions prior to kick-off, and our team wasted no time putting their stamp on the game. Not even two minutes had passed when Madrid took the lead. Redondo pounced in the box but her effort from Eva Navarro's cross from the right-hand side was parried by the visiting goalkeeper. The ball fell to Weir who connected with a fierce strike from inside the area to make it 1-0. Pau Quesada's team continued to press forward following the opener and eight minutes later, the hosts doubled their lead, with Eva Navarro again at the heart of the action. The forward's delightful through ball sent Däbritz through on goal, and the German finished calmly against Inés Pereira.
Madrid reduced to 10
The madridistas continued their relentless push in the following minutes and Weir had a great chance to bag the third, but the Galician shot-stopper was on hand to turn her effort behind for a corner. With Madrid in full control, an isolated, unfortunate move resulted in Shei being sent off with 33 minutes on the clock. The defender raised her foot as she went into a 50-50 with Olaya, and Elena Peláez showed a straight red card. Pau Quesada called for a review, but the official upheld her decision after taking to the FVS (Football Video Support).
Däbritz makes sure
Despite being reduced to 10 players, Madrid maintained their dominance of the clash in the second half. With defence standing firm, Deportivo barely troubled Frohms between the sticks. Lakrar won the ball back well, though she would be forced off injured, and started the move that led to the third goal on 54'. After taking control in the centre of the park, she laid the ball to Redondo, whose first-time pass set Däbritz free. The German was up against Inés Pereira once again, making no mistake to notch her third goal in our colours. The Galicians looked to cut the deficit in the closing stages, but changes ensured fresh legs for our team. Athenea closed out the rout with a fourth in stoppage time, turning home Linda C's pass on the penalty spot. Feller could have even made it five but her effort came back off the post. A fantastic win and a clean sheet to round off a great week.
