Pau Quesada's team secured a big win in the first leg with goals from Angeldahl and Bruun in the first half.
Real Madrid picked up a very important victory against Eintracht Frankfurt in the first leg of the third qualifying round for the Women's Champions League, played in Germany. A great first half from the Whites, with goals from Angeldahl and Bruun, gives them the advantage in a tie that will be decided next Thursday at the Di Stéfano (8.00 pm CEST). Anyomi scored the home goal.
A good performance from our team in a packed Am Bretanobad. They played at a very high level for much of the first half, scoring twice in the first 35 minutes and completely disabling Eintracht. Madrid came out focused, solid and solid in defence, and lethal up front. In the 13th minute, Angeldahl opened the scoring. Linda C. hit the crossbar on a counter-attack, and on the long rebound, the Swedish player fired a powerful shot from the edge of the box to beat the German goalkeeper. Madrid's control was reaffirmed with a 2-0 lead in the 35th minute, Bruun's left-footed half-volley from inside the box increasing the advantage. It was a pity because the Germans managed to pull one back in the 45th minute, thanks to a header from Anyomi.
Solid at the back
Madrid did not let themselves be eaten up and recovered after the break. The second half was a battle for control of the game. However, our side was very secure against the home side's onslaught with a spectacular physical display (Pau Quesada made all five changes to keep up the intensity). Frohms made two fine saves from long-range shots by Gräwe and Memeti. Las madridistas also had two clear chances to widen the gap. Linda C. had the third chance in the 72nd minute after a run from Altenburg was deflected behind for a corner, and Bruun headed against the post in the 88th minute. Eintracht tried their best in the closing stages, but our side defended the result for the second leg (1-2).
