The Whites overcome Valencia thanks to goals from Athenea and Feller.
Real Madrid got off to a winning start in the first LaLiga match of the season. Our team beat Valencia at the Antonio Puchades, in a match which they dominated from the outset. Athenea made it 1-0 in the first minute of play and, despite numerous chances, it was not until the second half that Feller made sure of the win, making it 2-0. Toril's side are off to the best possible start to the season.
The game started well for the madridistas, who took advantage of the first move of the game to open the scoring. Linda Caicedo started a great move to make her way into the box and laid the ball off to Athenea at the far post, where the recent World Cup winner scored the first goal at leisure. Our team were dominating the attack at this point and once again the Colombian turned inside and let rip, only to see her shot deflected narrowly wide by Enith 9'. After the half hour mark, Bruun, one of the new signings, tried her luck on two occasions, but both attempts failed to find the back of the net. Valencia upped the tempo and their first chance came through Asun five minutes before the break, the Valencian's low shot was easily cleared off the line by Misa.
Feller increases lead
After the break, Bruun had another chance to add to the lead after Toletti's shot, but her header went just wide of the post 53'. On the hour mark, Raso, who had just come off the bench, came close to scoring after a shot in the box was deflected by the opposition defence. Immediately afterwards, Olga also tried her luck with a powerful right-footed shot from the edge of the area that was cleared off the line by the opposition goalkeeper. The chances kept coming from the Madrid side and, in the 72nd minute, the second goal finally came. Olga slipped a fine pass into the box to Toletti and Enith pushed the Frenchwoman's shot wide, but Feller was on hand to poke home the rebound and make it 2-0. Zornoza then looked to extend the lead, but her effort hit the crossbar and, after falling dubiously over the goal line, the referee disallowed the goal. 2-0 away was how it ended.
