Real Madrid won on their return to League action following the international break. Pau Quesada's team beat Espanyol away from home on league matchday 9 thanks to a Däbritz goal following Feller's pass in the 41st minute. It took a while for the team to get going in a first half with more play than chances.

Madrid could have taken an early lead, but Redondo's goal in the 13th minute was ruled out for a previous offside by Athenea. Later, the referees reviewed a possible penalty on Feller, which was ultimately not awarded. The opener came shortly before half-time. A great play by Feller left Däbritz with a sight of goal in the box. The German's shot took a slight deflection off a defender and found its way into Romane Salvador's goal to give our team the lead.

Espanyol came out with more intensity in the second half, playing close to Misa's goal. As the minutes passed, Real Madrid regained control of the possession and Feller had a chance to extend the lead with a powerful shot that went over the bar. The 0-2 could also have come from Keukelaar after a good combination play at the end of the half, but the forward was unable to get a decent shot on goal. Finally, the match ended 0-1.
