2-0: Massive win for Real Madrid at the Di Stéfano
Goals from Rocío and M. Oroz handed the Whites all three points against UDG Tenerife, who are battling it out with our side for a place in the Champions League places.
Real Madrid secured a vital win in their fight for the European spots in the Primera Iberdrola. The rearranged matchday 17 fixture saw Alberto Toril‘s side defeat UDG Tenerife 2-0 courtesy of goals by Rocío and M. Oroz, to record a sixth consecutive win at the Alfredo Di Stéfano.
Real Madrid went close early on through Esther in the fourth minute, but the Canary Islanders responded with two good chances that fell to Koko and Marijose. As the first half progressed, the hosts began to carve out more and more openings and, on 16’, Athenea almost found a way past Noelia. Madrid’s pressure then paid off on the half-hour mark. Zornoza’s cross from the right was met by Rocío who outjumped her marker to head in the opening goal. On the stroke of half-time, Nahikari almost doubled her side’s lead when her lobbed effort from the edge of the area just missed the target.

The game continued in the same fashion after the restart. Toril’s charges threw everything at the visitors and, on 47’, Gavira cleared the ball off the line to deny Athenea. Madrid kept posing a threat on Noelia’s goal, as the keeper had to be at her best to save Esther’s long-range strike. Tenerife then pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages of the clash, but M. Oroz produced a dazzling piece of skill to beat two defenders, before firing the ball past Noelia to double the hosts’ lead 86’. The goal secured three crucial points for the Whites ahead of their quarter-final clash in the Women´s Champions League against Barcelona Tuesday, 9pm CET.
