The Croatian midfielder's strike from outside the area secured all three points for Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Real Madrid picked up an important win in their quest for the league title. The league leaders overcame Sevilla thanks to a goal in the 80th minute, which came from Modrić with a well-struck shot from the edge of the area. The Santiago Bernabéu remains a deciding factor for our team, with 11 wins and 2 draws at home.
The game got off to a slow start, with Sevilla making their presence felt in the Madrid area following a counter-attack that En-Nesyri was unable to convert after just eight minutes. Lucas Vázquez then scored, picking up a great pass from Vini Jr. with his left foot and finishing with a fine effort across the goal, but it was disallowed by Díaz de Mera, who was alerted to the monitor by the VAR referee and judged that Nacho had fouled En-Nesyri in the build up.
Controversy
Our players strongly contested the call, as well as one later on in which they claimed a penalty for a foul on Rüdiger. The German was grabbed by Bade when he tried to get on the end of a corner in the 19th minute. The league leaders' dominance was overwhelming against an opponent who were defending in their own area and hardly conceded any chances. As a result, Valverde tried a his luck in stoppage time with a powerful long-range shot that Nyland had to keep out.
Valverde struck the post
The pattern of the game remained the same after the break, and our team had the chance to open the scoring early in the second half. Brahim's 48th minute cross was met by Valverde's first-time shot, hitting Sevilla's left post. The visitors' answer wasn't long in coming, and Lunin did well to keep out Isaac Romero's shot in the six-yard box with 52 minutes on the clock. Two minutes later, Rodrygo's individual effort was just inches wide of the target.
