Defeat in the derby

A defeat suffered in the derby held at the Cívitas Metropolitano. An uphill struggle right from the start. Within 20 minutes our side were two goals down. The first came in the 4th minute, in a move that started with a foul by Hermoso on Bellingham on the edge of Atlético's area. Referee Alberola Rojas didn't call the foul, Atlético went forward and Morata headed his side into the lead. Griezmann, made it 2-0 in the 18th minute, with another header. Modrić came up with a fierce strike from the edge of the area that flew just over in the 21st minute.

Only seven minutes later and Camavinga unleashed a long-range effort that hit Saúl and skimmed the home side's crossbar. Alaba took the resulting corner and Valverde's header was saved by Oblak. Kepa kept out Saúl's strike in the 31st minute and in the next move the score was 2-1. Kroos latched onto a rebound on the edge of the area, cut inside Saúl with his left foot, and fired home with his right. Bellingham whipped a cross into the Atletico box with 44 minutes on the clock, but Rüdiger was offside as he brought down and couldn't get on the end of it. Alaba shot from the far post and the ball fell to Camavinga at the back post to make it 2-2. Alberola Rojas ruled Madrid's goal out for Rüdiger's offside.

Second half
Atlético were on target again early in the second half with another Morata header, before Mario Hermoso's header from a corner came back off the crossbar in the 54th minute. Ancelotti's men created a string of chances from that point onwards. The first came with two long-range efforts from Tchouameni and Rüdiger, which narrowly missed the target. Brahim went on a run that ended in a corner after Oblak deflected behind his shot across goal in the 78th minute. Madrid's first defeat of the season.
