A place in the Champions League final will be decided at the Santiago Bernabéu after a thrilling first leg, which saw Real Madrid take the lead and then fight back from Bayern's two goals. Vini Jr. opened the scoring midway through the first half after a brilliant through ball from Kroos. The game started with Bayern on top and in the first minute they had a golden opportunity to score, but Lunin did well to ensure Sané fired wide when the forward found himself one-on-one with the keeper. Things changed after the goal. Real Madrid began to hold onto the ball, building up longer stretches of possession and pinning Bayern back in their half. After the re-start, the game was two-way traffic. The Whites had the chance to extend their lead in the 51st minute when Vini Jr. started a counter-attack, which was continued by Bellingham and ended with Kroos's shot from the edge of the area, which brought out a fine save from Neuer. Two minutes later Bayern equalised through Sané's individual brilliance.
