Mbappé and Arda Güler were on target for the Whites at the Metropolitano.
Real Madrid lost their first game of the season in a derby that began at breakneck speed and in which, just before the quarter-hour mark, Le Normand put the home side ahead with a header from a set piece. The leaders responded and levelled in the 25th minute. Mbappé linked up with Arda Güler and the Turkish player played the ball into space for the Frenchman to finish past Oblak with a precise shot across goal. It was the Frenchman's eighth goal in the current LaLiga season and his 10th this term.
Xabi Alonso's side were not content with the 1-1 scoreline and made it 1-2 in the 37th minute. Mbappé retrieved the ball in the opposition's half and fed it to Vini Jr., who beat Llorente and Le Normand and delivered a precise pass to the penalty spot for Arda Güler to finish with his left foot. The Turkish player scored a goal and provided an assist at the Metropolitano. Before half-time, Lenglet equalised from another set piece, but after reviewing the goal on the monitor, Javier Alberola ruled it out for a clear handball by the home defender. However, Sorloth did score in added time with a header from Koke's cross.
With the score at 2-2 at half-time, the hosts struck again after the break. Julián Álvarez converted a penalty in the 51st minute after Arda Güler first cleared the ball and then caught Nico González in the head with his trailing leg. The clash got even tougher in the 63rd minute with a second goal from Julián Álvarez, who struck from a direct free kick. From then until the end, the Whites were dominant as they sought to reduce the deficit, but in added time, Griezmann made it 5-2.
