The semi-final of the Spanish Super Cup couldn't have started in a better way for Madrid who took the lead after just two minutes with a superb goal from Valverde. The Uruguayan's long-range free kick with the outside of his right foot was a missile aimed at the top corner of the goal defended by Oblak, who, despite his stretch, could not get close to the ball. Xabi Alonso's side had little trouble at the back in the first half hour and could even have made it 2-0 on two consecutive occasions. The first came in the 28th minute after a breakaway by Carreras, who started a quick counter-attack in which Rodrygo cut inside Ruggeri and his left-footed shot was turned away by the red and white keeper. The second, a minute later, was a Bellingham cross and Vini Jr's header from inside the box missed the target.
Rodrygo does it again
After the hydration break, Atlético pushed forward and had the chance to equalise in the 33rd minute. Baena took the corner and Sorloth's header at the near post was turned away by Courtois with a great save. Seven minutes later our goalkeeper made a good save after Baena's shot from the edge of the area. With the score at 0-1 it was 0-1 at half-time and after the break our team widened the gap in the 55th minute. Valverde's inside pass between the defence and the midfield and from there Rodrygo broke through Le Normand's lines and perfectly finished when one-on-one with Oblak.
