Real Madrid slipped to defeat against Real Sociedad at the Reale Arena. The goals came in the second half, as the Whites were reduced to ten men in the 61st minute after Carvajal was given his marching orders. Referee Pulido Santana showed the defender a second yellow card, although the right-back appeared to touch the ball with his challenge.
The first half finished goalless, though both sides carved out numerous chances. Ancelotti‘s men first went close in the sixth minute when Tchouameni’s fierce drive forced Remiro into a fine out-stretched save. Three minutes later, the goalkeeper was called into action again as he pushed away Militão’s glancing header from a corner. Sørloth flicked on a corner kick by Kubo and Zubimendi sent an effort crashing against the crossbar from inside the six-yard box. Four minutes later, Courtois had to be at his best to deny Silva from a one-on-one situation.

The second half got underway in the worst possible fashion, as Real Sociedad went ahead with 47 on the clock when Kubo pounced on an unfortunate mishap in defence involving Militão and Courtois. Kroos looked to level on 55’ with a well-placed long-range effort but Remiro was equal to it. Things went from bad to worse with 61 minutes played as Carvajal was sent off by Pulido Santana, who had shown him a yellow card for dissent just moments earlier as he had to Ancelotti, Ceballos and Rodrygo. The second yellow came for a tackle on Aihen despite the defender clearly getting a toe on the ball. Our team pressed for an equaliser at the Reale Arena in spite of their numerical disadvantage, but the hosts killed the game off on 85’ when Barrenetxea found the back of the net.
