1-1: Draw on final day of league season

Real Madrid brought the season to a close with a draw against Athletic at the Santiago Bernabéu. Both goals came after the break. Sancet fired Athletic ahead in the 49th minute and Benzema, who received a standing ovation when he was substituted, converted a penalty to make it 1-1. In stoppage time, Asensio received a special tribute from the Bernabéu faithful when he made way for Lucas Vázquez.

There was controversy early on in the match. After ten minutes, Iñaki Williams headed inside the area and the ball hit Kroos' hand, while the German had his back to the play. The referee Díaz de Mera pointed to the penalty spot, but Courtois made a spectacular save to deny Vesga.  Ancelotti's side's riposte came in the 24th minute with a dangerous shot from Vini Jr. from the edge of the area, but Unai Simón saved well.

As the minutes slipped by, the visitors looked to double their lead on the half-hour mark, but Yuri's fierce strike from the edge of the box was pushed behind by Courtois. On the stroke of half-time, Rodrygo produced a fine piece of skill to get past two defenders and find himself one-on-one with Unai Simón, but the goalkeeper made himself big and snatched the ball away from the Brazilian as he tried to go past him.

The clash became an uphill task for Madrid after the break when Sancet broke the deadlock in the 49th minute. Courtois did well to parry the away player's first effort, but could do little to prevent the rebound going in. Eight minutes later, Iñaki Williams found himself one-on-one with the Whites' goalie, who once again proved that he is the best goalkeeper in the world with a magnificent save.

Benzema levels
A possible 0-2 scoreline swung to 1-1. Yuri clashed with Militão in an aerial challenge inside the box and Benzema duly converted the spot-kick in his last game for the club. The Frenchman was substituted and received a standing ovation from the Bernabéu faithful after a glittering and unforgettable 14 seasons as a madridista. Ancelotti's boys almost won the game in the 89th minute after a neat move by Vini Jr., but Rodrygo's shot in the six-yard box after a pass from his compatriot narrowly missed the target. In stoppage time, Asensio also got a standing ovation from the home fans when he made way for Lucas Vázquez.
