Nacho Fernández spoke to the media in the Wembley press room to analyse the Champions League final between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund (Saturday, 9:00pm CEST): "I have the utmost confidence in this team and we head into the final full of enthusiasm and ambition. We have a lot of respect for our opponents, but we have a lot of confidence because of the season we've had. This competition is very special for us."
"A few years ago it was almost impossible to think of catching up with a legend like Paco Gento, but now we're just one step away from a final and having the chance to win it. It's exciting to be part of this small group of players with six Champions League titles, but first we want to focus on the match, to feel good and confident about the match."
Key week of the season
"This has been the most nervous week of the season, as we're going into a final and that's when we're most nervous. We're confident, but we're human. It's going to be a difficult game because it's a final, although this is special for the club. It's exciting for the fans, but for the players it's uneasy because it's something special."
Getting off to a winning start
"We prefer to start by winning because on the pitch we suffer when we're losing, even if it doesn't look like it. These are hypotheses about the results. We're focused on playing a good game and I hope that the result will be favourable throughout the match. We have to play this match, which is going to be very competitive against a very strong opponent."
What does it mean to play in the Champions League?
"It's special, exciting and thrilling. It's the best thing that can happen to a football player and even more so if you're a Real Madrid player, because of what it means for this club and for a canterano. I'm really looking forward to the match and I hope that everything goes well tomorrow."
A very special competition
"Everyone who likes football knows that for Real Madrid it's special because the numbers say so. It's not something made up. When the anthem is played we feel very close to it because it has always gone very well for us. This is a very special competition because the club has so many titles. But we also have a very big responsibility with this new final and we want to do as well as we have done in recent years."
