Fede Valverde spoke to the press in Riyadh about the first derby Real Madrid will play in under a month, the Spanish Super Cup semi-finals: "We're very excited. It's another trophy at stake and another derby among all the ones we have to play this month. We have the opportunity to prove that we can compete for a lot of trophies. I'm very happy to be able to take part in the Super Cup for another year."
"It's very nice for me to play these matches. The best thing about Madrid is that you compete against the best and Atlético are at a world class level. Starting with tomorrow's game, we know we are battling it out for a trophy. The cup and league games will also be important and they'll determine whether we can fight for all the trophies. We want to demonstrate to the fans that we're going to fight for all the trophies."
His first Super Cup trophy
"I remember what that Super Cup was like, it was my first one. It was amazing to win another trophy with Real Madrid and to be able to celebrate it with the team and my family was something very special. I would love to win another one because this team expects to win trophies."
What has changing to the centre midfield position meant for you?
"I've played in that position all my life. They saw me playing as a 5 and nowadays I'm better equipped. I can play in a number of positions and that helps the team. I'm very happy with that approach of mine. I can contribute more goals and assists as a winger. But I've always said that this is the position I enjoy the most. Wherever I play, I enjoy it and I enjoy it when I get to play there.
Best personal form
"It could be yes. I really enjoy playing in this position and I can contribute where I like the most, whether it's defending or attacking. I can link up with every teammate on the pitch. I'd love to be able to score as many goals as I did last year and to be closer to the box, but at the end of the day you have to adapt to what the coach wants. Like I said, I'm very happy playing. I look like a kid out on the pitch. This is the position where I'm happiest."
Would you do the same again as in the 2020 Super Cup?
"I would as long as it's for the team and done consciously. Not if we're 3-0 up because I wouldn't think it would matter. We were level in that final and it was a decisive moment. If we had the same result I would do it again for my team-mates, the team, my pride and my values. You have to always give your all for the team."
"I've come to compete and play to win another trophy with Real Madrid. Some people think that the Super Cup should be played in Spain. All we have to do is play, try to win and bring home another trophy for the fans. We want them to enjoy all the hard work we're putting in so that they can be happy that we're winning more trophies. Every player has to deliver from whatever position they're in. If we win, we'll be in the final, so we have to support each other, be united and play this Super Cup with the utmost respect and the utmost demand".
Signings in Arabia
"All the players that have come here are stars of football and they've achieved a lot of things. Cristiano was one of the pioneers of all this. It highlights how much they want to improve the competition. It's important that we have players of the standard of those who have come here. It's important for it to continue to grow."
