Ancelotti: "The aim is to try to finish the season well"

Carlo Ancelotti appeared in the Real Madrid City press room and analysed the match against Sevilla on LaLiga matchday 37: “It has always been difficult for us at the Sánchez-Pizjuán. The objective is to try to finish the season well. There are two games left. We did well against Mallorca and tomorrow we also have to do well”.
Have you lacked the belief to be league champions?
“I don't think so. It hasn't been a problem of belief, because in the past, this team has been able to believe things when nobody else believed them. The comebacks we've had in recent times have come from believing and never giving up. The injuries we've had in defence have been an obvious problem, because they've been to very important players. We mustn't forget that in the last Clásico, we were missing the four defenders who had started the season. Carvajal, Militão, Rüdiger, Mendy and Alaba were all missing”.
The league
“It's part of football. Sometimes you're not able to get the best out of everyone. We have to congratulate Barcelona because they played beautiful football. They deserved the league title and next year it will be a different story with Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atlético fighting for the title”.
Praise for Mbappé's season and his battle for the Golden Boot.
“It's a motivation. For him, it's important, and it means he's performed well this season. He has scored 40 goals; for a first season at Real Madrid, it's very good. I think he can still get more out of his performance, but we have to be honest: his first season at Real Madrid has been very good”.
Are you enjoying your remaining time on the Real Madrid bench?
“I'm enjoying it, albeit in a different way because we wanted to be in the fight for the league until the end. I'm going to enjoy it until the final day and then prepare for another challenge”.

“He's an important part of my coaching staff, also because we have a special father-and-son relationship. I have a lot of confidence in him. He tells me things that sometimes others on the coaching staff don't dare to. The coaching staff is young, enthusiastic and makes me think a lot. They are young, but they have experience. The group of analysts at the club is very good, with Simone leading them. Real Madrid will be able to enjoy their work in the future. We're a family and working in a family environment brings out the best in each of us.”

“He's a great player, with a great future and potential. He's a very good signing. All Real Madrid signings bring excitement, because this team is always at the top and always wants to be at the top. Last year we didn't think it was possible to strengthen there because we had the return of Alaba and Militão and Carvajal, but injuries have hurt us”.
Do you think you have not been listened to when you have asked for reinforcements?
“I have been listened to. Since I've been here, Real Madrid have signed, if I'm not forgetting someone, Camavinga, Rüdiger, Bellingham, Tchouameni, Mbappé. Could I have asked for more? No”.
“All the decisions the club has made have been agreed with the coaching staff and with me. There is nothing more to add. Last year we had more or less the same injury problems and we were able to fix it, but this year it has been more complicated.”
The squad’s performance this season
“You could get more out of each of us, but to make an assessment of players like Valverde, Vini Jr., Rodrygo or Courtois is impossible. I will never criticise players who have given me so much joy over the last four years. For me, they will continue to be the best, even if at times they are not able to perform at their best.”
