Xabi Alonso turns 44
The Real Madrid coach returned to the club last summer.
Xabi Alonso is celebrating his 44th birthday today. The Real Madrid coach was born on 25 November 1981 in Tolosa (Guipúzcoa), and is currently in his debut season at the first-team helm. During his playing career, he made 236 competitive appearances at the club between 2009 and 2014. He won 6 titles in that time: La décima European Cup in Lisbon, 1 European Super Cup, 1 LaLiga title, 2 Copas del Rey and 1 Spanish Super Cup.
As a coach, Xabi Alonso began his career in the Real Madrid academy, where he led the Under-13s in the 2018-2019 season. He then made the switch to Real Sociedad B for three seasons, before taking charge of Bayer Leverkusen in 2022-23. He spent three seasons in Germany, winning the Bundesliga, the German Cup and the German Super Cup. In the summer of 2025, he returned to Real Madrid to take up the post of first-team head coach.
