Rudy Fernández took the kick-off in the Mallorca-Real Madrid match
A club and world basketball legend announced his retirement last Friday.
Rudy Fernández was given the honour of the kick-off in the LaLiga matchday one game between Mallorca and Real Madrid. The Mallorcan, one of our club's and the world basketball's biggest legends, was given a standing ovation before the start of the game at the Son Moix stadium.
Rudy, who announced that he was retiring as a professional player last Friday, has been one of our club's most important players during one of the most successful periods in its history. In 13 seasons wearing our jersey he won 26 trophies: 3 European Cups, 1 Intercontinental Cup, 7 Leagues, 6 Copa del Rey and 9 Spanish Super Cups. He has also played the third most games in the club's history (754).
A legend of the Spanish national team, in Paris this summer he became the first men's basketball player to take part in six Olympic Games. Having played 266 times for Spain, he has won two World Cups, four European Championships, two silver medals and one bronze medal at the Olympic Games, as well as other achievements.
