Historic Goals: Zidane
NEWS.
This week’s edition of Historic Goals features Zidane. The Real Madrid and world footballer legend joined our club in the summer of 2001 from Juventus. The French midfielder captivated the fans with his quality and magic on the pitch. He was the hero of La Novena with his memorable volleyed goal, and continued his love affair with the Champions League as Madrid coach, clinching three consecutive trophies between 2016 and 2018.

On matchday 22 of the 2005/06 league campaign, Real Madrid thrashed Espanyol 4-0 at the Santiago Bernabéu. Zidane bagged a brace in the game and the goal we have highlighted is the one that sealed the win. The Frenchman collected the ball outside the box, took it with his right foot and struck a powerful left-footed strike past the keeper.
Zidane made a total of 227 appearances for Real Madrid, scoring 49 goals. As a Madridista he lifted 1 European Cup, 1 Intercontinental Cup, 1 Uefa Super Cup, 1 LaLiga title and 2 Spanish Super Cups.
