Today marks the 107th anniversary of Real Madrid's fifth Copa de España crown. Arenas were the opposition in this final, which required two matches to determine the champions. The first was played on 13 May in Barcelona and neither team was able to score after normal time and extra time with two 10-minute halves. The 0-0 draw forced a decider, which took place two days later at the same venue.

The decisive match was once again tightly contested and somewhat breathtaking in its length. The Basque side took the lead in the first half, but Madrid equalised courtesy of a René Petit goal. The score was 1-1 at the final whistle and a 20-minute extra time period was needed to decide the winners. At the start of the second half of extra time, Álvarez struck the winning goal for the madridistas, who held on to win until the 130th minute. Thanks to this triumph, the Whites lifted the trophy once again after their previous title in 1908.
