Gonzalo, Club World Cup top scorer
The Real Madrid striker finished top of the scoring charts with four goals and one assist.
Gonzalo was awarded the top scorer prize at the Club World Cup. The Real Madrid striker scored four goals, the same number as Di María (Benfica), Guirassy (Borussia Dortmund) and Marcos Leonardo (Al Hilal). However, he added an assist that broke the deadlock and earned him the award.
The academy graduate’s superb performance in this competition began in the group stage, where he scored against Al Hilal and Salzburg and provided an assist for Arda Güler against Pachuca. In the round of 16, he scored the winning goal against Juventus and in the quarter-finals, he set us on the way to victory against Borussia Dortmund. Four goals and an assist in the Club World Cup rounded off an excellent season in which he had already been Primera Federación’s top scorer with Castilla.
