Named after the Greek army general and hero of the country's independence, it was built on the site of the historic velodrome football ground in the 1920s. It was subsequently redeveloped in 1964 and rebuilt in 2004. It seats around 33,500 spectators and has hosted international matches, the 2004 Olympic Games and the 2023 European Super Cup Final.
