Asencio: "It was very special to get the goal in front of our fans"
"It was important to start the year in this manner," underlined the academy graduate.
Raúl Asencio delivered an impressive performance at the Bernabéu, capped off with the third goal of the night—a towering, unstoppable header—which was also his first for the Real Madrid first team. After the match, he spoke to Realmadrid TV: “It was important to start the year in this manner, at home and with a different feeling around the place compared to the end of last year. It was a big game for us to prepare for what's to come."
First goal as a Real Madrid player
“It had been a long time since I scored, and doing it in front of the fans was very special. I was lucky to get on the end of a great cross from Rodrygo and I took the chance to score my first goal. I hope there will be loads more to come in front of our fans.”
Special dedication
“There was a young lad who was here today; he’s living in Madrid now but he’s from the Canary Islands. His name is Elías, he has leukaemia and has been fighting the disease for a long time. It was really beautiful to be able to score just on the day he came to the game. It felt right to dedicate the goal to him. I’m sure he enjoyed it a lot, and we’ll have to invite down more often.”
Super Cup
“It was important to feel positive today ahead of what's coming up. It’s a big competition for us and against top opposition. We’re going into it with all the excitement in the world. Leaving the Bernabéu on a high like this gives us an extra energy boost.”
