Luka Modrić and Carlo Ancelotti are Real Madrid legends and the Santiago Bernabéu bid them farewell with the honour their spectacular careers deserve: the two most successful in the club's history with 28 and 15 titles respectively. Both were protagonists of the last LaLiga match, which our team closed out with a victory against Real Sociedad, thanks to two goals from Mbappé. The first came in the 38th minute when he reacted quickest to the rebound from his own penalty and the second in the 83rd minute with a left-footed shot from a tight angle from Vini Jr.’s assist. With this brace, the Frenchman leads the Pichichi Trophy standings with 31 goals and the Golden Shoe with 62 points.

From the start, Real Madrid were clearly in sync and after just seven minutes, they were able to take the lead. Arda Güler's through ball to Mbappé, slightly off-balance, who was unable to beat Marrero with his shot. The visitors' response came two minutes later when Sergio Gómez went one-on-one with Lunin, who did excellently to keep out the goal. Midway through the first half, the visitors' keeper was again in inspired form as he pulled off a great save to keep out Asencio's shot from the edge of the area in the 21st minute.

The match was very entertaining and in the 37th minute, Melero López was called by the VAR referee Figueroa Vázquez to observe on the monitor an earlier play in which Pablo Marín deflected Arda Güler’s flick with his hand. The referee decided to award a penalty, which Mbappé took and Marrero saved, but the Frenchman took advantage of the rebound to score his 30th LaLiga goal.

Second half
There was no change in the game’s script after the restart. Our team continued to attack and could have widened the gap in the 62nd minute. Mbappé combined with Vini Jr. and the Brazilian's left-footed lob attempt was saved thanks to some good work from the visiting keeper. In the 76th minute, Lucas Vázquez was replaced by Gonzalo, and the clearly emotional Galician left the pitch to a standing ovation, hugging several teammates as he left the pitch. Four minutes later, Mbappé tried again with a fierce shot from the edge of the area that was met by a fine save from Marrero, but he was unable to do the same in the 83rd minute after the Frenchman's wicked left-footed shot inside the area. Brace and 31st goal in the league. Mbappé now also leads the Golden Boot standings with 62 points.

Tribute to Modrić
In the 85th minute came one of the match’s most eagerly awaited moments. Ancelotti, who was coaching the team for the last time today and reached 250 wins with Real Madrid, decided to replace Modrić with Chema and the match was halted. The Bernabéu gave a standing ovation with both teams giving a guard of honour to a footballing legend, who achieved victory in his last match at the stadium that will always be his home.

Thank you, legends!
