This is Wembley, the setting for the Champions League Final
Real Madrid will play the final at the stadium for the first time in its history.
Wembley Stadium, located in the borough of Brent and with a capacity of 90,000 spectators, it is the venue for tonight's Champions League final, in which Real Madrid will fight for their 15th European Cup against Borussia Dortmund (9:00pm CEST). It is our team's second official visit to the stadium, as they played there on 1 November 2017 against Tottenham in the Champions League Group Stage.
Wembley is the stadium that has hosted the most European Cup finals, but none of them have featured the most successful club in the competition: Real Madrid. This will be the eighth and the last precedent dates back to 2013, curiously, also with Borussia Dortmund as finalists (they lost to Bayern Munich). Wembley has hosted other football events such as the 1966 World Cup, the 1996 and 2020 European Championships, the 2022 European Women's Championship, and the 1948 and 2012 Olympic Games. It is also the home of the England national football team, the venue for the FA Cup, League Cup and Community Shield finals. It will also host Euro 2028.
Other sporting disciplines and concerts
In other sporting disciplines, several American football matches, rugby matches and boxing matches have been held at the venue. In terms of music, Wembley hosted Live Aid in 1985 and has hosted the likes of Michael Jackson, Queen, U2, Bon Jovi and Madonna, among others.
Construction and transformations
With over 100 years of history, Wembley was built in 1923 to host the British Empire Exhibition. Since then, it has undergone several transformations. The first was the installation of a roof in 1963, but the most important transformation took place from 2002 onwards. The old stadium was demolished and the new design was completed by Norman Foster and reopened in 2007 for the 2012 Olympic Games.
