Real Madrid celebrated their fourth league title in 1955. The Whites mathematically secured the championship on the penultimate matchday by defeating Atlético Madrid (2-4) at the Metropolitano stadium. The visitors settled the game before the break with a brace from Di Stéfano and a strike from Rial. The other goal came from Olsen.

That season, Real Madrid finished five points ahead of Barcelona in the standings. They lost one game at home and three away. Juanito Alonso picked up the Zamora Trophy, while Di Stéfano, with 25 goals, was the team's top scorer. Enrique Fernández started the championship as coach, but Villalonga took over on matchday 14. That same campaign also saw Madrid win the Latin Cup after beating Stade de Reims in the final (2-0) courtesy of a brace from Rial.
