40 years since Sanchís and Martín Vázquez made their debut
Both legends made their first-team debuts on 4 December 1983 in a league match against Murcia.
The La Condomina stadium was the setting for Sanchís and Martín Vázquez's debuts with the Real Madrid first team. Both players started the match with Sanchís playing a leading role, as he scored the only goal in Madrid's win. Alfredo Di Stéfano was the coach who gave these two young talents their chance.
Sanchís is one of the players with the most appearances in the history of our club (710). The son of another Real Madrid legend, Manuel Sanchís Martínez, he played 18 seasons in the first team and, while wearing the captain's armband, lifted the seventh and eighth European Cups. He won a total of 22 trophies. Martín Vázquez is remembered for the exquisite technique he demonstrated in 343 matches, helping him to 15 trophies in his two spells at Real Madrid.
La Quinta del Buitre
Members of a legendary generation of youth players, these two players' debuts marked the emergence of the Quinta del Buitre into the first team. The next to make his debut that season was Pardeza, on 31 December 1983, in a league match against Espanyol. Butragueño played his first Real Madrid game on 5 February 1984, in a league trip to Cádiz. Míchel, who had previously played his first minutes against Castellón in April 1982 as a result of a footballers' strike, was promoted to the first team in the 1984/85 season.
