Uruguay got the better of Canada in a penalty shootout as the madridista completed the full match.
Uruguay brought their Copa América campaign to a close by sealing third place with a win over Canada on penalties. Valverde was named in the starting XI and played the full clash, going on to score the first spot-kick as his nation claimed victory from 12 yards.
Betancur opened the scoring for Uruguay inside 8 minutes, before Koné levelled shortly afterwards (22’). Canada were ahead on 80’, thanks to Jonathan David's strike, but Luis Suárez made it 2-2 in injury-time, sending the game to a penalty shootout where the Uruguayans came out on top.
