Real Madrid-Atalanta: all eyes on a European Super Cup win
PREVIEW.Rodrigo Salamanca

Real Madrid's season gets underway with the first trophy up for grabs already: the European Super Cup. Our team are back in competitive action some two and a half months after winning the Champions League at Wembley. Tonight, they face Europa League winners Atalanta at Warsaw's National Stadium (9:00 pm CEST). Ancelotti's boys will be looking to add to their legendary European status with another continental crown, and what would be their sixth European Super Cup.
Besides the chance to claim another title, the game promises to be a very special one for a number of reasons. Mbappé and Endrick could both make their debuts for our club, and even get their hands on a first trophy as madridistas. What's more, the clash is the starting point of thrilling season that sees our team compete in seven competitions: The Champions League, the Club World Cup, the Intercontinental Cup, the European Super CupLaLiga, the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup.
Records
There are also a string of records that stand to be beaten this evening. Victory would see Madrid move out on their own as the most decorated team in the history of the European Super Cup. Meanwhile, Modrić will be seeking a 27th title as a madridista, which would make him the player to have won the most trophies ever for our club.
Ancelotti is also in with the chance of claiming his 14th trophy with the club, one which would see him move level with Miguel Muñoz as the coach with the highest number of trophies in Real Madrid history. Should he win the European Super Cup, he would also become the only coach to have won the competition on five occasions: "It's the first title of a demanding season and we want to start strongly," underlined the coach in the press conference.
Atalanta
Tonight's opponent are the Europa League winners, following an impressive victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the final (3-0), to complete the campaign with 8 wins, 4 draws and a defeat in the competition. In the showpiece, Lookman guided his team to the title with a stunning hat-trick, and he's sure to be one of the key men for the Italians again tonight. Atalanta, who are playing in their first European Super Cup final, come face to face with Real Madrid for the third time in European competition. The previous two encounters came in the Champions 2020/21, and both went the way of the madridistas.
