Real Madrid Castilla closed 2024 with an away defeat against Ceuta on Primera Federacion matchday 18. The Whites had chances to win at the Municipal Alfonso Murube, but came up against a great performance by the opposition goalkeeper. Gonzalo equalised from the penalty spot (70‘) after Rodri Ríos’ opener (59'), and Sofiane put the home side ahead in the 78th minute. The reserve team return to action on Saturday, 11 January, when they host Alcoyano at the Di Stéfano (7:30pm CET).
The first half was goalless, although there were plenty of chances at both ends. Víctor Muñoz had the three clearest chances for Castilla, but all were saved by Pedro López. For Ceuta, Cristian could have opened the scoring, but Fran González made a firm save from his direct free-kick. On the stroke of half-time, the referee disallowed a Rodri Ríos goal for offside.
After the restart, Rodri Ríos took advantage of a mistake by the Madrid defence to beat Fran and make it 1-0. Ten minutes later, the Ceuta striker brought down Antonio David in the area and the referee awarded a penalty. Gonzalo, top scorer in the division, converted the spot-kick to level the scores. The striker could have scored a second, but again the goalkeeper saved the home side and finally it was Sofiane who headed home to make it 2-1. Castilla looked for an equaliser until the end, but the goalkeeper and the defence prevented it.
