Arbeloa's side were unable to get the victory at the Estadio Romano José Fouto.
Real Madrid Castilla lost to Mérida in their Primera Federación matchday 11 fixture, which was played at the Estadio Romano José Fouto. The match began at a frenetic pace. In the 7th minute, Yáñez had a chance to put our team ahead, but his shot went slightly wide. In the 25th minute, Thiago tried his luck with a left-footed shot inside the area that missed the opponent's goal by a whisker.
Castilla were the better side. However, the home side took a 1-0 lead through Pareja in the 42nd minute, following a bicycle kick pass from Álvaro García. Arbeloa requested a review from Football Video Support, believing that the dangerous play by García had interfered with Joan Martínez in the build-up to the goal, but referee Rubén Ruipérez allowed the goal to stand. Before half-time, Mérida extended their lead to 2-0, also through Pareja (49'), making matters more difficult for our team.
After the restart, Castilla came out looking for a comeback. In the 63rd minute, they could have made it 2-1 with a shot from Yáñez inside the area that went just wide. The reserve team kept pushing, but Mérida made it 3-0 after an unfortunate own goal by Valdepeñas. The match ended in the worst possible way for Castilla. David Jiménez was sent off for a tackle on Vergés and in the melee that ensued on the pitch, Rubén Ruipérez also sent off Manuel Ángel and Arbeloa.
