RM Castilla
Our reserve team played with ten men for more than 60 minutes at Lezama due to Cestero's inexplicable sending off in the first half.
Real Madrid Castilla lost to Athletic B on Primera Federación matchday three. The Basque side took the lead in the second minute through Ibai with a goal from a corner. In the 37th minute, Castilla were reduced to ten men after Cestero was sent off following an inexplicable decision by López Jiménez, who gave him a second yellow card, even though the referee reviewed the action on Football Video Support and saw that the Madrid midfielder touched the ball first and then pulled his legs back to avoid contact in a defensive action. Despite being a man down for more than 60 minutes, our team sought to push until the end for the equaliser, but the score remained unchanged.
Athletic B made it 1-0 early in the match with a close-range finish inside the area following a corner. In the 14th minute, Loren Zúñiga had a chance to make it 1-1, but he was unable to connect with the ball after the opposing goalkeeper made a mistake while trying to control his defender´s back pass. Castilla were growing into the game, however, in the 37th minute, Cestero, who had been booked in the 28th minute, received a second and incomprehensible yellow card from referee López Jiménez. Arbeloa requested a review of the play via Football Video Support, but the referee upheld his decision, even after seeing the replay, which showed how our midfielder touched the ball first and immediately pulled his legs back to avoid contact with his opponent in a defensive action.
With one player fewer, the dynamic changed. Despite this, Loren Zúñiga tried again in the 44th minute with a volley inside the area that flashed wide. The Madridistas held off the home side's assault before the break. After the restart, Arbeloa brought on Diego Aguado, Cristian David, Jacobo and Thiago at the same time. With the changes, our team sought the equaliser in the early exchanges. In the 60th minute, Manuel Ángel broke into the area, but his shot was blocked by the defence. Lamini and Fran González were very solid, preventing Athletic from increasing their lead.
Despite the best efforts of both sides, the score remained unchanged. Castilla are now looking ahead to their postponed match from matchday two against Racing de Ferrol, which will be played on Wednesday, 17 September, at Real Madrid City.
