0-1: Castilla lose first game at the Di Stéfano
The reserves didn't deserve to lose against Ibiza, who clinched the win in the 55th minute.
Real Madrid Castilla lost in their season opener at the Alfredo Di Stéfano. Raúl's side deserved more, in terms of play and chances, against Ibiza, who took all three points home with a goal from Naranjo in the 55th minute. The first half was very tightly contested and with few chances. Castilla, who were very solid in defence, had the clearest chances. The first one took place after half an hour. A long ball that Loren Zúñiga chased down and took past Ramón as he came out, but his back-heeled shot failed to find the target.
The next two dangerous moves for the reserve team came in quick succession. Youssef shot from the edge of the area but the visiting keeper turned the ball behind for a corner in the 43rd minute. Ribes‘ header from the corner forced Ramón to make a spectacular save to keep out the first goal.
Second half
The second half had more pace and started with Eugeni's left-footed shot from the edge of the area in the 50th minute that missed the target by inches. Two minutes later Castilla responded with a header from Hugo de Llanos from just inside the six-yard box, but the ball ended up in the hands of Ramón. The visiting keeper was Ibiza's most outstanding player and they managed to take the lead in the 55th minute with a goal from Naranjo. The away side could have widened the gap a quarter of an hour later with a shot from the midfield by Astals, which Fran González cleared off the line. From then until the end, the Whites threatened to equalise but were not rewarded for their efforts.
