Álvaro Rodríguez finished runner-up with Uruguay at the South American U-20 Championship in Colombia after failing to beat Brazil in the final. The Castilla striker, who made his made his first team debut for Real Madrid against Cacereño in the Copa del Rey, was one of the most outstanding players at the South American Championship, scoring five goals and providing one assist.
The Uruguayan striker, who joined Madrid's youth academy in 2020 to play for the U-20s, scored a hat-trick against Bolivia 4-1 in the first group stage and then scored two more goals, one of them a volley, in his team's victory over Venezuela 1-4 in the final group. With that win, Uruguay qualified for the U-20 World Cup, which will take place in Indonesia from 20 May to 11 June 2023.
