Seventy years ago, the Santiago Bernabéu stadium staged its first European Cup match. Real Madrid welcomed Swiss side Servette and produced their first great performance in this competition in front of their fans. José Villalonga's team won 5-0 and rounded off their European Cup debut in style.

The first goal witnessed by the Bernabéu in the European Cup came from Alfredo Di StéfanoLa Saeta scored twice in that match, with JoseitoRial and Molowny also on target. A month earlier, on 8 September 1955, Real Madrid had made their European Cup debut in Geneva with a 2-0 victory.

Madridistas dominant
The victory in the first five European Cups was mirrored by Madridista success at home. The Whites remained unbeaten at home until February 1962, and during this run they achieved the unforgettable feat of winning their second European Cup at the Santiago Bernabéu against Fiorentina.
