Today marks 70 years since our European Cup debut
On 8 September 1955, Real Madrid began their legendary history in the competition against Servette in Switzerland.
On 8 September 1955, Real Madrid played their first ever game in the European Cup. It came in the competition's inaugural edition, and our team got underway with a 2-0 win over Servette in Geneva. Miguel Muñoz became the first madridista goalscorer in Europe, before Rial closed out the scoring for the team coached by Villalonga.
That season marked the beginning of Real Madrid's legendary status in the competition, as they went on to lift the trophy after beating Servette, Partizan and Milan in the knock-out rounds. In the final, the madridistas became the first team to etch their name into the tournament's historic honours list with a win over Stade de Reims in Paris.

Seventy years later, Real Madrid are the most decorated team in the European Cup with 15 titles to their name. They also dominate the statistics with the greatest number of win (302), appearances (503) and goals scored (1,104). On an individual level, the madridista to have played the most games is Iker Casillas (152), while Cristiano Ronaldo is the top scorer, sitting on 105.
