It has been 68 years since Real Madrid won their second Latin Cup. On 23 June 1957, the team led by José Villalonga lifted the trophy after defeating Benfica 1-0 in the final with a goal from Alfredo Di Stéfano. The Madridistas had previously beaten Milan in the semi-final of the competition, which was played at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium.
With this title, Real Madrid ended an excellent 1956/57 season, in which they also won the League and their second European Cup. They were also crowned champions in the final edition of the Latin Cup. In 1955, they had also won this international trophy, which brought together the best teams from France, Spain, Portugal and Italy.
