68th anniversary of the second European Cup win
On 30 May 1957, Real Madrid defeated Fiorentina at the Bernabéu (2-0).

68 years ago, Real Madrid won the second of their 15 European Cups. The final’s setting was special, as it was played at the Santiago Bernabéu. On 30 May 1957, the Madrid fans were able to see their team retain their title of continental champions, which they had won in the tournament’s first edition the previous year. Fiorentina were the opponents on this occasion. Di Stéfano scored the first goal in the 70th minute and, a few minutes later, Gento put the final beyond doubt with the second goal, finishing past the Italian goalkeeper.
On the path to lifting the Second European Cup, Real Madrid faced a tough first-round tie against Rapid Vienna, in which a play-off match was required. Nice and Manchester United were the opponents in the quarter-finals and semi-finals, respectively. With the win against Fiorentina, the Whites achieved a first League and European Cup double that season.
