NEWS.

On 17 June 1959, Pelé appeared at the Santiago Bernabéu with Santos to pay tribute to one of the great legends of the club. Miguel Muñoz brought his playing career to an end and received the recognition of the fans in a testimonial game between Real Madrid and the Brazilian team.

Real Madrid, who played this tribute match 14 days after lifting their fourth consecutive European Cup at the Neckarstadion in Stuttgart, were strengthened by the Athletic player Gainza, who hung up his boots that year and was a close friend of Miguel Muñoz. They also brought in Luis del Sol, who played for Betis and, a year later, joined the club. The three Gento brothers also lined up together on the pitch.

Club legend
As a player, Miguel Muñoz was at Real Madrid for 10 seasons, from 1948 to 1958. He was also part of one of the greatest moments in the club's history when he lifted the first European Cup as captain. His honours list as a footballer includes two more European Cups, four Spanish league titles, and two Latin Cups. After retiring, he continued as a coach and completed a legendary career. He coached our team in 605 matches over 14 years, winning two European Cups, one Intercontinental Cup, nine league titles and two Copas.
