Real Madrid became five-time European champions in one of the greatest matches in the history of football. On 18 May 1960, the Whites beat Eintracht Frankfurt at Hampden Park (Glasgow), with outstanding performances from Puskas (4 goals) and Di Stéfano (3). The Madridistas cancelled out Kress's opening goal and won their fifth consecutive title, a feat that has not been repeated since.
To reach this historic encounter, Real Madrid had beaten Jeunesse Esch, Nice and Barcelona in the previous rounds. The Blaugrana were defeated in the semi-finals with a 3-1 double victory. The competition’s top scorer that year was Puskas with 12 goals.
