62 years since winning the league for the 8th time
On 18 March 1962, Real Madrid sealed the title with a 2-0 home win over Mallorca.
Real Madrid won their eighth league title 62 years ago. The team clinched the title mathematically on the penultimate matchday after beating Mallorca 2-0 at home thanks to goals from Di Stéfano and Del Sol. Real Madrid successfully defended the title they had won in the previous season's edition of the competition.
Miguel Muñoz's side finished that 1961/62 League with a three-point lead over Barcelona, were the side that conceded the fewest goals in the competition (24) and goalkeeper Araquistain won the Zamora Trophy. That season's top scorer was Puskas, with 20 goals. This league title was the second of eight won by Real Madrid in the 1960s.
