On 11 April 1968, Real Madrid's basketball team were crowned champions of Europe for the fourth time in their history, when they beat Spartak Brno in the final held in the French city of Lyon. The team coach by Pedro Ferrándiz defended the title they had won the previous season against Olimpia Milan.
This was not the first time Real Madrid had beaten the Czech team in a European Cup final. They had done so over two legs in the 1964 tournament, and four years later, they once again got the better of Spartak Brno, this time in a single title decider. Despite injuries to Sevillano and Emiliano, who was forced off in the opening stages of the final, the madridistas took the initiative throughout the game thanks to sublime performances by Aiken (26 points), Luyk (24) and Brabender (22). The victory saw Real Madrid underline their continental dominance, winning the trophy for the fourth time in five seasons.
