On this day, 48 years ago, Real Madrid claimed their 18th basketball league title. On 20 March 1976, the Whites mathematically secured the title by beating Barcelona (114-76) with five games remaining in the championship. Lolo Sainz's team finished the league with a record of 29 wins and 3 defeats. 
 
In that year's edition, the competition was divided into two parts. First, the Regular League, in which Real Madrid finished top of the standings. Then, a second phase between the teams with the most victories, with Real Madrid securing the title with five matchdays to go. Walter Szczerbiak was the top scorer in the competition with an average of 30.9 points per game. This was Real Madrid's ninth consecutive league title.
