Real Madrid enhanced their European history by winning their second UEFA Cup 38 years ago. Our team lifted the trophy in Berlin's Olympic Stadium after a two-legged final against Cologne. The Germans won 2-0 that day, but the madridistas had a bigger advantage from the first leg (5-1) that saw them win the trophy.

A week before, on 30 April, Real Madrid had taken the initiative in the final at the Santiago Bernabéu with a thrashing featuring goals from Hugo Sánchez, Gordillo, Valdano (2) and Santillana. There were memorable matches on the road to the final, such as the comebacks against Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Round of 16 and Inter Milan in the semi-finals. In the same season, Luis Molowny's side also faced AEK Athens, Chernomorets Odessa and Neuchatel.
